Preko je prometno i administrativno središte otoka Ugljana koje se, kako mu i ime kaže, nalazi preko puta Zadra, sa starim dijelovima tipične dalmatinske arhitekture i mnoštvom ladanjskih kuća patricijskih obitelji. Mediteranski ugođaj najbolje ćete osjetiti šetajući po «lungomare» ili ispijajući omiljeno piće na nekoj od terasa s pogledom na Zadarski kanal. Preko je najbliže polazište za izlet na Sv. Mihovil (265 m iznad mora) do kojeg vodi 3 km duga asfaltna cesta. S tvrđave se pruža pogled na više od 200 otoka zadarskog arhipelaga i na NP Kornati. Samo 80 m udaljen od Preka leži idiličan otočić Galevac (Školjić), prekriven bujnom mediteranskom vegetacijom, koja skriva vrijedan samostan franjevaca trećoredaca iz 15. st. To je omiljeno mjesto za kupanje, kao i pješčana plaža „Jaz „ u blizini, koja s pravom nosi Plavu zastavu – simbol čistog mora. Na istočnoj strani mjesta, blizu trajektnog pristaništa, nalazi se romanička crkvica sv. Ivana iz 11. st.
