Turanj

Turanj is idyllically Dalmatian village settled in the middle of the Adriatic Coast. It tracks main road along the Croatian coast for 4 kilometers. Only few kilometers from Zadar and Biograd, along with the close National parks Krka and Kornati, Park of nature Vransko lake, and other more popular tourist destinations like Vodice, Turanj has evolved to a tourist center it self. Opposite to it, tame island Pašman reclines. They are divided, or joined if you please, with Pašman channel, famous due to one phenomena. Sea currents in channel steam in both direction through channel periodically. The sea is somehow calmer and tamer in it and that is why Turanj’s pebble beaches are so appealing. Small archipelago of sixteen islets maybe the reason why Turanj’s area was interesting during the past; first findings date even from bronze age. On local cemetery, there is a small church build upon the remains of Roman villa rustic in 845. year. In 15. century, on that area just by the sea, was built a fortress from Croatian peer Meštrović. That is how Turanj gain it’s name (turis – tower, castle). One tower, main entrance and a part of fortress walls is preserved even now. Turanj has 1200 residents and, besides agriculture, which is their main occupation, there are lots of private apartments for holiday rent, villas, rooms, houses and hotels. Tourist offer rises from year to year, due to popularity of Turanj as a tourist destination, along with gastronomy offer in numerous restaurants proud of their kind smiled staff and delicious dishes they serve.
