Stinjan is a little touriste place situated on the outskirts of Pula in south and western part of Istria. The village was established at the time of the old Roman (1st century) where the Roman emperors in Pula and a part of Stinjan found a pleasant area for their sojourn. You should also come here and spend your holidays in Stinjan (Pula) along visiting the cultural and historical monuments and along with nice and clean beaches on the peninsula and a lot of swimming in the beautiful sea. Center of Štinjan is situated on hill altitude 50m on which is situated square and church St. Margerita, patron of Štinjan village (built in 17 st.). From the canter of Štinjan there are starlike strached streets to the rest parts of village and beaches, towns Fažana, Pula and Vodnjan. Canter of Pula is faraway from Štinjan around 5 km, canter of Fažana is faraway around 3 km and canter of Vodnjan is faraway around 8 km. Name Stinjan appear in the time of Romans when they used the land for purpose of agriculture and in that time name of village was Astinianum. After Romans imperia, enter on the functions took Bizant, in 13 st. enter on the functions took Venezia. After Venezia by the end of 18st. on short time enter on the functions took Napoleon and on the beginning of 19st. enter on the functions took Wien. The Austro-Hungarian government has recognized Pula's gulf ideal for building war harbour and in that time began rapidly grow of Pula and on the around hills crop up fortifications for the protection of enemy attack. Also on the Štinjan's hills there are several fortifications which are even today well preserved. In that time, in front of Štinjan bay was built sea wall which is one of the biggest built on Mediterranean Sea. After collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy at 1918., Štinjan and Pula enter on the function of Italy until the end of the Second world war. In that time on Štinjan coast was built airport (hydrobase) for Hydro-planes which were destroyed during the Second world war by the Federal bombs. Today Štinjan inhabitants use hydrobase for pulling out of the water and putting into the water their boats. After capitulation of the Italy, until 1947. Pula and Istra enter on the function of England and from 1947. enter on the function of Yugoslavia until 1990. During the government of the Yugoslavia, JNA (army) take over all military objects from the ex governments, and in that time there is no significant growth of the Štinjan. With the collapse of Yugoslavia and emancipation of the Croatia military zones become demilitarized and that area was redirect to tourism
