Mozirje - Upper Savinja valley is one of the most beautiful alpine valleys in Europe. The valley is surrounded by white mountain-peaks and green forests, rising above the Savinja river, which springs up under Okrešelj in Logarska valley. The rural town Mozirje is a gateway to the Upper Savinjska valley as well as the valley’s administrative center. The town was first mentioned in the year 1146, and it gotten its trading rights before the year 1318. Mozirje got its crest in the year 1581. Mozirje was for all these centuries know after its craftsmen and its imposing farms, which were scattered around the surrounding hilltops. Since the year 1970 you can find on the Mozirje Mountain a Mountain tourist center Golte, where are numerous ski slopes and a hotel, which was built this year. Golte offers handful of opportunities to be in a close contact with the pure nature, with plants and animals. In summer the ski-slopes are replaced by green pastures, on which farmers from surrounding farms grazing their horses and cattle. There are limitless chances for hiking and biking. The true pearl of Mozirje is a Flower-park Mozirski gaj. The park gives a home to the crafty work of European gardeners. All year around you can find variety of flowers and other plants. There is also and ethnographic collection of old buildings and a chapel, dedicated to St. Valentine and to all the lovers who had said “I do” in it. On the 1st of May and the 15th of August you can visit the traditional flower exhibitions. In the autumn there is a pumpkin exhibition with the competition for the heaviest pumpkin in the Europe.
