Preddvor is one of those small towns in the Northern Slovenia,in the region of the Gorejnska where simply the beautiful landscapes of the Karnst Alps,the green valleys crossed by rivers and an important historic past are a great incentive to visit the Republic of Slovenia,this small country closed between Italy, Austria, ,Croatia,Hungary and a small string of Mediterranean sea in central Europe. 37 km north from the capital Ljubljana and very close to the capital of the county Kranj,Preddvor with its approximately 3,500 inhabitants is situated at an altitude of 425 m on a green plateau at the foot of the mountains Storzic of 2,132 m and in proximity of the Grintovec of 2,558 m.Preddvor is next to the charming artificial lake Jezero Crnava and over the course of the river Kokra a tributary of the river Sava about 34 km long which has its source in the Karavanke Alps crossing the southern neighbourhood of Hrib. The municipality of Preddvor is the result of a group of small villages built all around the centre of the town Preddvor such as Hrib,Potoce,Spodnja Bela,Srednja Bela,Zgornja Bela,Mace,Baselj,Breg ob Kokri, Kokra,Nova Vas,Tupalice,Hrase Pri Preddvoru and Mozjanca.The name Preddvor means big Villa or Palace,the history of this small town is very similar to all the rest of Slovenia,inhabited by former Celt and Illyrian populations,it was under the influence of Roman Empire,in the course of the history the country came the first Slavic populations who settled here,although many invasions by Lombards,Avars,Huns,Franks, Bavarians,Venetians,Ottomans and Austrian -Hungarian this town has always its identity of a peaceful town living mainly of agriculture and small trades during its more modern history under the Austrian Empire,as part of the former Yugoslavia and since 1991 in the independent state Republika Slovenija,the Republic of Slovenia.
