Island Prvic

Croatia / Sibenik-Knin / Island Prvic

Prvić is one of two settlements on a small picturesque island in archipelago of Šibenik. The whole island has a size of 2,41 kilometers, and it is the smallest island on Adriatic with even two villages on. The island is connected with the mainland by frequent boat lines, making possible to reach Šibenik in 40 minutes or Vodice in 20 minutes from Prvić Luka. Thus, Luka is favorite vacation and holiday destination for foreign tourists and inland as well, desiring peaceful Dalmatian island atmosphere within reach of the continent. Beside few tractors, there is no other motor vehicles on the island. The only sound of modern achievements getting to ones ears is the sound of small family boats and the sound of music from rare bars and restaurants. Prvić Luka is the ideal place for family holidays. The population of less than 200 people are mostly occupied with tourism. In Luka there is a small family hotel accompanied by numerous private apartments and rooms for rent. In peak summer months, there is a quest for a spare bed, due to the intact beauty of village and the coves with intimate beaches, treaded around the small island, like a pearl necklace. Mediterranean climate made a tame oasis out of the island; the island was inhabited in Antics and diligent people used to live from fruits of the earth and the grace of the sea. Gastronomy offer still stands on homegrown products such as olive oil, brandy, vine, authentic vegetables and herbs, fresh fish and meat, all prepared in traditional Dalmatian manner, which is considered to be one of the healthiest on the world. Prvić Luka is positioned in a deep bay on southeast side of the island facing towards the island of Zlarin and the city of Šibenik. In 15th century it became the resting place for noble families from Šibenik. In the year 1461. Franciscans came to Luka and founded the monastery with the church of Our Mercy Lady. Even today the slabs of the church hides the grave of Croatian famous linguist, diplomat, bishop, engineer and inventor Faust Vrančić who lived in 16th century. He published over 50 inventions, which were far ahead his time, and whose handmade setups can be seen in the museum in Prvić Luka.
