Tisno

Tisno developed in the place where the island almost reaches land and was therefore named after this narrow strait (6 m). It is situated 28 km west of Šibenik. The centre of the old part is located on the island, south-east from the bascule bridge. The new part was built on a mainland. Unlike most other Dalmatian towns and villages, Tisno is very rich in green vegetation, it has got unusually spacious squares and a long promenade, perfect for a refreshing summer stroll. Srima

Srima is a small picturesque tourist town merged with the town of Vodice due to the increasing number of summerhouses. The town was growing in the Middle Ages but inhabitants had to flee from Turk attacks and settle at the nearby island of Prvić where they founded the town of Šepurine. When at the end of the 17th century the danger of Turk attacks ceased, the people returned to Srima. In the last twenty years there was a sudden upspringing of tourism, due to construction of first-rate accommodations in family houses, summerhouses and numerous camps. Rogoznica

Rogoznica lies in the southernmost part of the Sibenik-Knin County, in a deep bay sheltered from wind, about 30km far from Sibenik. Today's peninsula comprises former mainland part called Kopaca and the islet of Kopara connected by a causeway in the present village of Rogoznica. The part of Rogoznica that lies on the mainland was populated already in 1390. In 1518 the inhabitants fled in front of the Turkish army to safety of the nearby islet. Primošten

Together with Vodice, Murter and Rogoznica, Primosten is certainly the most attractive tourist place of the region. It is just 28km far from Sibenik by the Adriatic tourist road. In the past Primosten was situated on the islet close to the mainland. During the Turkish invasions in 1542 the islet was protected by the walls and towers and draw bridge connected it to the aminland. When the Turks retreated, the draw bridge was replaced by the causeway and in 1564 the settlement was named Primosten after the Croatian verb primostiti (to span). Pirovac

The history of this Dalmatian place goes far back in the past. It was first mentioned in 1298 when it belonged to the noblemen from Bribir - the Subic family and later it became the property of the Sibenik Diocese and some noblemen from Sibenik. The settlement itself was founded in the 15th ct. by the refugees who fled from the Turks. Nevertheless, this area was inhabited many centuries earlier than that which can be proved by the remnants of the Roman settlements found on the islet of St.Stephen. Žirje Island

Žirje, with 15,43 km2 is biggest of all islands in Šibenik's archipelago. It is also the most distand island from Šibenik (11 NM), as a part of outer line of islands. It goes along a dinaric direction, with lenght of 12 km, with average width of 1,2 km, and biggest 2,5 km. There are many small, beautifull islands around Žirje. The island has many coves and a long costal line (39,2 km). Shelter for ships and boats are the coves of Mala Stupica and Vela Stupica, and Tratinska, and a ferry line from Sibenik comes to the cove of Muna, which is exposed to wind. Prvić Luka

Prvic is only about a half mile far from the mainland which makes it the closest of all the islands in Sibenik archipelago, to the coast. It is a natural extension of the island Zlarin which is proved by numerous underwater shallows and the Razenik promontory as well as the islet of Lupac. It covers total of 2.37km2 spreading from the north point of St.Lucy's to the south point of St.Anthony's 3.1km in length. Island kaprije

The island of Kaprije is situated in the central part of the Sibenik archipelago with the surface of 9.67km2. It was named after the Mediterranean plant kapara (caper - green buds of a plant, used pickled). In the 14th and the 15th ct. the island belonged to the families of the noblemen from Sibenik. During the Turkish invasions in this region in the 16th and the 17th ct., Kaprije was inhabited by the refugees from the mainland who, after the retreat of the Turks, partly leave the island. Murter

Murter Murter is the oldest settlement on the island Murter. The road that leads to Tisno and goes on connects it to the nearby Sibenik which is only 30km far from Murter. The settlement itself is situated in a fertile valley between Slanica and Hramina bay. Slanica is an idyllic sandy beach appreciated by the players of sand volleyball who play it in the shallow waters of the beach and Hramina bay offers a safe berth to smaller yachts as it is naturally protected from all winds. Old writings show that in 1298 the settlement called Villa Magna i.e. Big village, counted 203 inhabitants. Jadrija

Jadrija is a favourite seaside resort and weekend place for many inhabitants of Sibenik. It is situated on a peninsula Srima and it spreads from the former islet of St.Andrew's which is nowadays connected to the mainland by a causeway, along the coast. Because of its nearness and good traffic relations with Sibenik (by car and by boat), it was already in 1922 town's beach which was before that situated on the islet of St.Andrew.
